Rating: Checking in on Foursquare finally pays off
In celebration of Social Media Week 2011, Nokia has created the ‘Nokia Gift Machine’ to make Foursquare check ins more rewarding. The machine is currently installed at Social Media Week in Glasgow (#smwgla) from 19th – 23rd September.

To receive a free gift, visitors must do the following:
1. Open Foursquare on a smartphone
2. Find the Nokia Gift Machine at Social Media Week in Glasgow
3. Check in using the #NokiaConnects hashtag
4. Share to Twitter
5. Collect a free prize
Prizes include imported candy bars from the US, Nokia accessories and allegedly even some free Nokia handsets.
1000heads, a word of mouth marketing agency created the gift machine with Nokia as part of their ongoing campaign of ‘random acts of kindness’ which has run throughout year.

The concept behind the machine was to demonstrate how online activity can bring offline rewards.
James Whatley, marketing director at 1000heads said, “The Nokia Gift Machine is Nokia’s way of giving something back to the attendees of Social Media Week.”
He added: “Working with the very latest Foursquare APIs, as well as Foursquare’s various teams stateside to help create this awesome piece of tech has been a fantastic experience and overall, we couldn’t be happier with the result.”
