Free mobile ad platform? Sounds too good to be true

mOcean Mobile claims to provide a new “boost profits and increase downloads” application mobile advertising solution. But the biggest whammy is that it claims to do this for FREE!
Something sounds fishy?
Call me cynical but when something sounds too good to be true I feel compelled to check it out.
What is it?
So, to my surprise mOcean isn’t a drop in the ocean (sorry!) or a two bit nobody… it is in-fact a Mojiva spin off or spin out.
Excuse me?
Yes, Yes. You heard me. Mobile ad network Mojiva has created a mobile ad serving platform. The tool is for applications and developers. They can use it to manage their own mobile ad space.
aHA!
So this is a tool for developers its free and basically they can use it as a personal market place for ads. So it’s not so much as completely free but an enabling tool for apps with a similar model to Tapjoy!
aHA x2!
I should have read all the way to the end of the release first! It is too good to be true!
Use of mOcean for Apps will be free, with a premium version of the platform available for expanded yield optimization functionality. Developers can start signing up today at www.mOceanMobile.com. The first 5000 applications/developers to sign up qualify for a mOcean Mobile co-op marketing program that will help promote their apps.
What we think?
I am not sure really. Should we be saying congratulations to Mojiva for being innovative or slating the company for deviating so much with its core. It has so many arms from ad network, self-service platform, white label platform etc. Its growth and outward push when everyone else is slowing down or taking a deep breath is double sided.
Again. I am not sure.

Bena, thanks for sharing your thoughts on mOcean for Apps. Yes, we believe it’s a good thing for app developers because it’s straight forward and honest. Seeing all of the unsubstantiated hype around apps these days, I can appreciate why you have doubts. Mojiva however has built a solid reputation for sound technology (which is, after all the mOcean Mobile ad serving platform), good service and integrity with thousands of mobile web publishers who use the self serve ad network for free, and even make money using it. Companies like OpenX have developed similar online free ad serving tools for the long tail quite successfully and we have confidence that mOcean Mobile will do the same. I’m here at CTIA in San Diego and every app publisher we’ve spoken to is excited about mOcean for Apps. Call me and I’d be happy to chat more with you about the platform in general, and mOcean for Apps specifically. -Dave Gwozdz, CEO of Mojiva
Dave, thanks for your comments. I am going red in the face when I read my article with the number of typos - sorry about that -but its hard on the road.
OK
lets wait till after CTIA but I will call you for a chat.
regards,
Bena
