Getfugu Mobile Search, visual search and voice search

getfuguNow, we have written about  Getfugu  before on GoMo News and Cian wasn’t too impressed. But today I just spend 30 minutes or so checking out the company and the service and various content.

Why?

Well Getfugu launched a new press release today saying that it has partnered with Interpublic’s (IPG) Emerging Media Lab, a leading center for consumer research, to give the Lab’s popular brands and agency partners exclusive, first-mover rights to Getfugu’s technology.

What we think?

Well, to be honest, I had a good look around and I agree with Cian’s comment that the service is a bit confused because it adds its several types of search and also a get paid to view ads service… but if we only focus on the image search, voice search, hot spot search - the offer has the potential of not only being good… but being stellar.

I mean the company it seems is spawning talent see the bit from the press release below:

In recent months, Getfugu, under the leadership and vision of CEO Bernard Stolar, has been assembling a roster of esteemed talent for its executive management and its board. Since joining Getfugu, Stolar, who is former Game Evangelist at Google, has appointed Internet search pioneer and Ask Jeeves (Ask.com) founder David Warthen as the company’s CTO. Additionally, Stolar has also named Beth Doherty as Vice President of Network Sales, bringing in more than 20 years of experience in the high tech and entertainment software industries with senior positions at companies including THQ Wireless, Acclaim Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA).

Yikes, that in itself is one hell of a scary line up that sure means business. On top of that as we have seen from Movidilo visual search can be enhanced by voice and this is what this does. Not only this but a paid advertising service  called “hot spot search” for display images in applications AND LBS or GPS mobile search capabilities.

This all sounds like a nerd’s orgasm.

But does it work? Well, I have to say, I am in Barcelona on a dodgy connection and when I tried to sign up now it failed. I am not going to slate it because of that but I will be testing it signing up and might even get a 9.99 USD ad service as part of the deal and report back.

Yikes. I even feel a rant coming on. GoMo News has supported and fought the battle for white label mobile search providers such as Medio, Jumptap and MCN for so long -but why aren’t they coming up with things like this? Is the focus on the mobile operator the acutal problem with white label search….

I can’t believe the passion of the Chinese student today - giving up his studies to follow the search dream… and all the other start-ups in search coming through the cracks now?  I mean Amazon just bought SnapTell - yikes. Something is moving here.. search is getting bigger again and companies such as Mobile Acuity that have moved slightly into mobile applications and content should focus back on the image technology… it can only rock.

I will be phoning the white label mobile search engines next week for interviews its time we got back to the basics.
