GoMo Buzzwatch: aggregating rumours about Motorola and Android

There’s been a flurry of speculation about upcoming Android devices from Motorola since yesterday morning. We take a look at the best of the bunch here.

The Calgary:

Broken by BGR, the “Calgary” is widely believed to be the name for an upcoming Motorola Android device – the first the company will have produced. From the picture, the QWERTY-slider follows much the same design aesthetic as the hugely popular Razr. It’s also speculated that the device will concentrate on social networking.

The Android Community also speculates that this will also be Verizons first Android device.

Goodbye Inferno and Flash:

Leaked a few months back, but never getting official announcements from Motorola, the Inferno and Flash devices are reportedly now being flushed down a toilet somewhere. The Flash was earmarked to be a Windows Mobile device similar in function to the iPhone, while the Inferno was rumoured to be flip device.

Hello IRONMAN and Rolex:

Two other devices are expected from Motorola soon. The IRONMAN is rumoured to be another Android based device – a smaller model than the Calgary with a downward-sliding QWERTY. The Rolex looks like it might be a successor to Motorola’s peculiar Aura phone, which was designed with a wrist-watch in mind.

What we think?

Go on, Motorola! My very first mobile device was a massive brick of a Motorola, so I’ve always had a soft spot for them. It really is about time it announced an Android handset – for a company that often tries to be an innovator, it lagged sadly behind on that one. As for the Rolex… novelty phones rarely, if ever, do very well. Given what people want from devices at the moment, and what they are willing to spend, it’s best to concentrate on getting the basics right. It’s great to see another two possible runners for Android OS as well.
