GoMo News CTIA unconference mobile advertising panel
Mobile Advertising panel at CTIA GoMo News Unconference
The mobile advertising panel at CTIA simply rocked at the un-conference. Some panellists said they will never speak to me again (not really) and other congratulated me on my ability to moderate!
No really. Huge thanks to everyone that participated to make it an interesting panel. The focus was on mobile business models and the essence was:
Smaato CEO Ragnar Kruse: we make sure any application make money. The money is the ability to engage consumers. Personalisation can be hard but isn’t always necessary. Mobile advertising depends on the applications and the type of company. (Video)
MocoSpace (video above): I asked CEO Justin Siegel if he was making money and he said “yes” ask Smaato and pointed at Ragner.
I felt that was the easy option and went back to find out more. I pushed him on the MocoSpace model and relevancy. He said that advertising was necessary as mobile social networks were about people with multiple personalities. You can have someone that likes music or any genre but is still interested in art, literature and very narrow targeted could be good but is not always essential.
I liked that as it set the stage to demonstrate that different business models were and could thrive in mobile.
I spoke to Unkasoftand JumpGames about in-game mobile advertising. Unkasoft is a very easy to understand company with a social background and caters for mobile advertising for Oxfam etc. The company (with huge news on its business on the way) thinks that all content must be mobile and advertising is a huge value component.
JumpGameson the other hand spoke about several types of mobile advertising panel and I had thought that they were just in mobile gaming but told I was mistaken. This is fine, but I am still slightly confused as to what JumpGames offers as so many avenues were covered. I have some video with Amit speaking here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7R8Jmyk4AU
mPulse Media (CEO Paul Smith) also enables anyone to make money on mobile by providing instant social media packages to any mobile site. I like this as it was just simple. You don’t have a social network or social or monetary services just use existing ones and brand them. Video here
