Googleplease stop impressing me as I am trying really really hard not to like you! No seriously, Mr. See No Evil is entering my playground once more. This time not for search or advertising but for mobile barcodes.

Google has launched Print Ads with barcodes and links to social media.

What is it?

Well basically it is a mobile barcode integrated social media or integrated media campaign. I found this via the ad above and in the one below – you can even watch the YouTube video.  This is just great. It’s classic advertising on print – using direct link barcodes, urls and Google’s existing social media platform (YouTube) for video access. It is like the apple pie of an interactive media campaign and I love it.

But, I think I appreciate it more because it seems as though Google has taken it upon itself to be an educator in the mobile barcode market. I love the find out more here and the detailed information about codes (QR, 2D, Datamatrix) when you access the link.  Someone needs to educate and Google does win the eyeballs.

I scanned the codes above on the Nokia N95 and got them instantly – www.servicemagic.com/ext/3585403

And on the Neo Reader instantly too: http://www.google.com

Very nice to see that 2D Codes are also coming to print media in the US and out of the ‘geeky niche’ they were in. It is the perfect way to easily promote online content.

If you want to use 2D Codes for promoting yourself or your own content (Blog, Music, Website, Social Network profile, etc) you can do that for example with the help http://www.snappr.net where you can create 2D Codes and print them on shirts, signs and similar.

    Cheers,
    Philip
