iPhone no longer the UI leader says On Device

Rating: Actually Motorola RAZR users are happier

Another clear sign that Apple is losing its way and that Android based handsets are winning out has been provided by On Device Research. It has mined data gathered from 320,000 mobile and tablet users across six countries to produce a user satisfaction table taken from 92, 825 mobile users in the USA. The report shows the iPhone coming in fifth place behind four Android based handset. Coming as no surprise to GoMobile News, the Motorola Droid RAZR M took second place behind the Motorola Atrix HD.

Apple’s Tim Cook will come under increasing pressure from Apple fanboys to produce something a bit special with an iPhone 6.

According to Sarah Quinn, marketing manager with On Device Research, “Although Apple created one of the most revolutionary devices of the pas decade [with the iPhone], other manufacturers have caught up – with some Android powered devices now commanding higher levels of user satisfaction.”

Significantly, all of the Top 5 devices in the US satisfaction survey are 4G capable devices – showing that there really is customer demand for the higher data throughput capabilities of 4G compliant networks.

By contrast in the UK, the only handset to beat the iPhone 5 in user satisfaction terms was the HTC One X. OnDevice puts this down to a near total lack of 4G networks in the UK besides EE.

Significantly, the HTC One handset is amongst the select few which existing customers (on Orange or T-Mobile) could trade in to the 4G-ready XL version. Obviously not everyone qualifies for this.

GoMobile News thought there was something familiar about On Device Research’s approach and strongly suspects many of its staff are ex m:Metrics which was sold quite a while back to ComScore.

On Device has promised to mine its databases to see what the satisfaction levels are like amongst BlackBerry users although it may be a little early to gauge just how jubilant BB10 handset owners are.
