One of my colleagues in work just got an interesting SMS from mobile operator O2 – “Hi, with out lend me service you can borrow Eur2 to make calls & texts. Service costs 25c.” Although this service has been available since August, there has been very little news about it, and this SMS was the first notification my friend has received for the service. We had a look-see to find out what the details are.
O2 Lend Me Service
The Lend Me service only applies to pre-paid top up customers who have topped up by at least €5 within the last 3 months – O2 wants to make sure they’ve got a reasonable chance you’ll pay them back.
You send a text containing “LEND” to 50201, and O2 will top your account up by €2. This can be used in any way you see fit – voice, text or data. The next time you top up, O2 will immediately deduct €2 from your account, along with an addition 25c in “interest”. You can’t get a loan more than once per top-up – if you haven’t paid off your currently outstanding €2.25, your “LEND” application will be denied.
The final requirement is that you have to have less than 50c on your account to be eligiblefor a loan.
What we think?
On the blog post that announced this service, O2 claimed that the Lend Me service was launched entirely on the back of customer requests. So why my O2-subscribed friend was only notified about this afternoon is something of a mystery. But now that O2 is giving out guaranteed loans at only 12.5% interest, it has probably become Irelands most reliable lending body!

cant get my lend me even do i top up every wk why is that
Despite topping up my account with at least 30e per week wen i need a lend me of 2e im always denied, i think the service is a load of rubbish and a con to get ppl to stick with 02
