Rating: Demo widgets available on BONDI site
The Open Mobile Terminal Platform ( OMTP) is pretty chuffed that its BONDI reference model is the first to be fully compliant with the W3C’s Widgets (1.0: Packaging and Configuration) specification. It’s a big step towards cross-platform interoperable mobile phone widgets.
To reach compliance, BONDI had to pass the165 mandatory tests available for the W3C’s widget standard. Nick Allott, the CTO at the OMTP said, The OMTP membership has put a significant amount of effort into ensuring that the BONDI reference implementation is compliant with W3C standards.”
“It is fantastic news that we can be the first to declare compliance to this important web standard,” Allot added. Of course it helps that as members of W3C, the OMTP has helped to drive the specifications.
BONDI itself is a comprehensive set of JavaScript APIs that expose useful device capability to application developers. It is supported by a strong security policy designed to protect user from application abuse.
The BONDI reference model is currently running on Windows Mobile OS and serves as a demo platform and test-bed for widget developers to use. Future reference implementations are planned. The chance to comment on version 1.1 of BONDI ended yesterday – 2nd December 2009.
Usefully, there are seven demo widgets here on the BONDI web site for those interested to see how widgets should work. GoMo News has the feeling they all run on Windows Mobile, though.
