There are many considerations one must take before choosing a domain. For SEO I recommend buying the dotMobi and redirecting it to something simple to type at the dotcom TLD (e.g. m.domain.com). Explanation here: http://www.brysonmeunier.com/mobile-seo-tip-redirect-your-dotmobi
Bryson,
interesting. I don’t agree that it is the death of dotmobi (like you). But I don’t think redirection is the answer.
The best advice I can give a mobile designer is to think mobile. When you think mobile and design a site for someone on the move.
Don’t replicate content but do make the mobile site mobile ready, 2 pages long and focused…
whatever the URL you will succeed.
I will elaborate more in a new paper I am writing using case studies of mobile optimisation for media rich sites.
m or .mobi —> Neither
Numeric domains: If end user experience is a factor, then reducing the number of click to get to a mobile website makes sense.
Example: ESPN (All point to m.espn.go.com)
Nuumeric equivalent is 3776
m.espn.go.com = 24 input clicks
espn.mobi = 19 input clicks
3776.com = 12 input clicks
Cheers,
Scott
