Samsung Galaxy Young goes on sale in UK

Appears to be a dual SIM smartphone

Although launched just before MWC Barcelona back in February [2013], the Samsung Galaxy Young has only just become available in the UK. Samsung itself cites the Carphone Warehouse and O2 as having the device available. However, neither make any mention of what GoMo News believes is a key feature. Namely the fact that this smartphone should be a dual SIM device. Yet in the specifications given for this device on the Indian version of Samsung’s web site here, it definitely confirms this is a dual SIM phone.

There are several advantages to the Dual SIM capability. Samsung says, “Dual SIM delivers the convenience of two phone numbers for calling, texting and web usage at work or play.”

“With the Always On feature, you never miss a call with call forwarding to the other SIM.” We wonder if that works in the UK?

However, we are more impressed by the device’s Hybrid Dual SIM facility.

This lets you use 3G data on one SIM while receiving a call on the other SIM. Neat.

GoMo News was particularly amused to note that Samsung had added this disclaimer to the technical specifications – “available capacity varies and storage is less due to phone software.”

It probably added that as a result of the furore which surrounded the Galaxy S4 and bloatware (see here) where a 16 GB model is left with a mere 9 GB of user accessible free space.

It’s also probably behind the emphasis the leading handset manufacturer puts on the Samsung S Cloud / Dropbox and Game Hub Lite facilities which enable the Galaxy Young user to access services held in the mobile cloud.

If anybody is interested, a SIM free version of the Galaxy Young – with dual SIM support, is advertised on eBay UK here for £130.
