With 7 million users, Shazam is maybe the biggest mobile music app available. The iPhone app can “listen” to a song playing in the background and identify the track name and artist. Today, Shazam announced the iPhone OS 3.0 update to the app. New features include better features and social networking capability.
New Features:
Twitter – when you tag a song, you can automatically push it to your Twitter feed
Share tags – you can send your tags as “postcards” to friends on Shazam, which they can add to their library
Location - your location at the moment you tag a track is recorded… for sentimental purposes, I guess.
From the release:
“Since launching on the App Store last year, Shazam has achieved a huge following with iPhone and iPod touch users” said Andrew Fisher, CEO of Shazam. “We have listened and learned from our iPhone and iPod touch users over the past year and we are confident that the millions of Shazamers around the world will enjoy the enhanced functionality of this latest release.”
What we think?
This isn’t the biggest update ever… but then, it doesn’t need to be. Shazam pretty much does it’s job perfectly already. Integrating some social networking functions is only going to make it more appealing to it’s fans.
