South Korean robot vacuum cleaner controlled by your mobile device

Koreans have plenty to be excited about. On tuesday we reported how Nokia is launching it’s first 3G phone in the country. Well today South Korean carrier KTF has new a hundred times more important: a robotic vacuum cleaner that you control through a 3G mobile phone.
The CW100 robot connects to your phone through a live video feed. You can see what it see through your mobile screen, and use your keypad to control it.

The cleaner costs around 290 euro, and is sold packaged with a special wireless data plan for the video calls

What we think?

This was just too crazy for me to pass up. But it’s also a great example of the concept of your mobile device as a “remote control for the real world”. This might seem like a boondoggle now, but services like this that are completely integrated with your mobile device are only going to become more widespread in the years to come.
