London based mobile ad innovator – LoopMe raises VC dollars

Claiming that London is indeed the centre for disruptive technologies in the mobile advertising sector, UK mobile ad pioneer, LoopMe, has scored $500,000 from Super Angels and VCs led by Ballpark Partners. The list of those who helped to secure the deal reads like a Who’s Who of the mobile advertising sector including names from AdMob, Velti and Ad Fuse. Springboard launches mobile accelerator bootcamp 2012

Rating: Europe’s first mobile-only accelerator programme , so it says

London and Cambridge based accelerator programme, Springboard, has launched of Springboard Mobile. It claims this is Europe’s first accelerator bootcamp for mobile-only start-ups. Springboard Mobile is a 13 week programme in the UK and Silicon Valley that will support the ten best founders in any area of mobile technology. The winners will get over $150,000 of free services; seed capital and counselling over 100 leading mobile mentors. You can still participate in Springboard Mobile if your company is already funded or generating revenue. Which is handy. The list of angel investors even includes an Admob founder. Continue reading

Writing in a blog for the Jerusalem Post, Levi Shapiro, Professor in the Media Innovation Lab at IDC, explains how soft drinks giant – Coca-Cola, plans to double its revenues by 2020. Naturally, mobile marketing is going to be a core part of that strategy. The drinks company has realised, of course, that if it wants to achieve its goal, then growth has to come from emerging markets and mobile is the ideal media for reaching such potential customers. Besides targeting markets in the likes of China and Latin America, the global brand is also investigation how it can utilise technological advances such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Holographic 3D to achieve its plans. AdMob allegedly steals location info, gets raided

Google hasn’t had the best of relationships with various world governments. It’s stand-up row with China last year was massive news all round the globe, and it has been in trouble with a lot of countries for supposedly stealing private information through roving Google Maps cars. Today sees this tension step up another notch, as police in South Korea yet again raided Google’s offices in the country… seemingly due to activity by Google’s global mobile advertising subsidiary, AdMob. Mobile Advertising Veteran Russell Buckley set to leave Google

Russell Buckley is one of the celebrities of the mobile industry. His blog MobHappy was one of the first social media blogs in the area and Russell’s reputation in mobile allowed him to lay claim to be the first member of AdMob. He then started up and ran AdMob EMEA. AdMob, now under the Google umbrella was the most successful mobile advertising start-up; period. It did what no one believed could be done and quickly carved a rich niche in the mobile ad space.

Amazing app stats emerge from virus threat research

Whilst researching mobile anti-virus and security, GoMo News stumbled across the App Genome Project. Basically it is designed to map the anatomy of mobile applications. Its authors say otherwise, but really it only covers iOS and Android apps. The Project was created by Lookout Mobile Security in an effort to gain insight into how mobile apps access both personal and sensitive data in mobile devices. All the better to identify security threats in the wild, of course. A brilliant side-effect is that it provides stats on the app developer community and how in-app advertising is faring. InMobi lunges for Admob’s throat, hands bent into savage claws

I think the thing I like most about mobile ad network InMobi is that it doesn’t really behave. It’s like the twinkly-eyed brat of the mobile advertising world, saying things it shouldn’t. When Apple launched iAds, InMobi resurrected one of the company’s own ads from the 80s to take a swipe at them. Mobile advertiser Madvertise conquers Germany, next the world

Back in January, GoMo News correspondent Steph Renda interviewed Madvertise Co-Founder and CEO Carsten Frien.
