Cimbal has at least 1 fan for its 2D colour barcode tech
Rating: Old chestnut of the Datamatrix code re-appears
Following our recent story ‘ScanLife enters tech spat with logo-centric QR codes’ here, an avid reader – Chris Boone contacted us concerning another alternative to colour QR codes. In this case, they are an alternative ‘Open’ 2D barcode technology – Datamatrix. Loyal readers may remember companies such as Abaxia championing the Datamatrix format in Europe against the rise of the QR code. It preferred to refer to such 2D barcodes as ‘mobiletags’. Scanbuy solution embedded into Nokia and Sony Ericsson devices by Telenor and Telia Denmark
Rating: Two Danish operators embed its app in to Nokia Na SE phones
It appears that Scanbuy which modestly bills itself as “the global leader in mobile barcode solutions is quietly stitching up the Danish market. It just announced that two of the countries leading mobile operators –Telenor and Telia Denmark will be providing handsets with Scanbuy’s barcode app pre-loaded. Showing their loyalty to the Nordic region’s native handset providers, this app will be loaded onto Nokia‘s N8 and Sony Ericsson‘s Xperia arc, Xperia neo and Xperia Play handsets. Northern Europe hasn’t abandoned Nokia, obviously. The fact that Scanbuy has been able to land this pair as customers is probably down to two factors. Firstly both Telenor and Telia have only recently entered into a network sharing agreement and are obvious already close. And secondly, that Scanbuy had the foresight to open an office in Denmark some years ago.esight to open an office in Denmark some years ago. Continue reading →

Rating: Just take a look at these pictures of codes and tags
The easiest way to tell barcodes apart is to look at them. Strangely enough, it is difficult to find all the major types illustrated in the same place. So GoMo News decided to fill the gap with this posting. If we’ve left out a major mobile barcode or tag you’ve heard of, then let us know via Comments (below). Continue reading →
BA’s barcode causes confusion – Datamatrix or Aztec?

Scanbuy allows open standard mobile barcode creation
Rating: Scanbuy now creates Datamatrix and QR mobile barcodes
Scanbuy has announced today that it will support the creation of Datamatrix and QR Codes. These are the two most widespread standards of 2d code in the world, and Scanbuy already lets people scan these formats with its ScanLife application. But before now it hasn’t allowed businesses to generate codes on ScanLife using these standards. What does this mean for enterprises working with the company? Continue reading →
Not new, but very friendly – 2DCodeMe wants to popularise mobile barcodes
2d barcodes have occupied the same space in Europe and America for a long time now – “not quite there yet”. There has been a constant lack of consumer acceptance of barcodes, which many companies have tried to address (with varying degrees of success). And a new attempt has just been launched by California company Big Fun! Inc – its new website “2DCodeMe” wants to get consumers interested in barcodes by presenting them in as friendly, informative and useful a manner as is possible.

QR Code vs DataMatrix – Do you know the difference?
Yesterday a press release was distributed about QR Codes. But Mark Hendriksen CEO of UpCode pointed out that if you look at the code it is a DataMatrix code.
It seems that the people writing the press release didn’t check and thought that all barcodes were QR codes.
Do you know the difference between a QR Code and DataMatrix Code?
