Four Chinese handset manufacturers suddenly get excited about JIL (Joint Innovation Lab) compatibility. Could this have something to do with the earlier announcement that the Wholesale Applications Community is going to be heavily biased towards JIL and OMTP BONDI? Probably.

lenovoIt has been widely reported that the conflict between Google and the Chinese government has resulted in China Unicom putting an indefinite halt on its upcoming Android device. But other manufacturers aren’t bothered by this - Samsung announced yesterday that it wouldn’t be delaying its device. And today China’s third biggest mobile manufacturer Lenovo Mobile announced the same thing… but it has more pressing reasons.

lenovoIn early 2008, home computer maker Lenovo span out its mobile device division. The mobile arm of the company went public because the group wanted to narrow its focus down to the “core” computer business. And now Lenovo is buying that division back into the company for twice the price it sold it for.

Rating: the starts don’t look too good
The dangers of relying on untried and tested new technology have been brought home to us Brits by the present debacle at Heathrow Terminal 5. What if the same thing were to happen at the Beijing Olympics?
It looks like the Chinese government will forge ahead with providing a 3G [...]
