The ACMA is the broadcasting and telecoms regulator for Australia - and it has found that high-tech mobile devices have driven a massive surge of mobile data usage in the country.

Samsung mobile device update: Mondi for WiMAX, Gravity 2 and Comeback for texting
Samsung has made announcements for three mobile devices since yesterday. The first is for Mondi, the Mobile Internet Device (MID) that has been designed to work with the Clearwire WiMAX 4G networks in the US. The second two devices, the Gravity 2 and Comeback, are both QWERTY devices aimed at the SMS market.
LG reports record-high profits and mobile phone sales
LG Electronics has declared that it has broken its profit records for Q2 this year. The South Korean manufacturer saw its net and operating profits soar. It also sold almost 30 million mobile devices from April-June, over 7 million more than it had in Q1.

Research shows 1.5 mobile phones per user in South Africa
Research just released shows that at the end 2008, there were 1.47 active mobile phone accounts in South Africa per user. The figures show 50 million phones in the country - but the entire population is somewhere around 48 million, including those too young or too old to have a mobile.
