Consumer claims brewery stole his MISDN for marketing
Rating: We’re still waiting for Greene King to comment
An Epsom (UK) man, who refuses to be named, has claimed that the Greene King brewery has stolen his mobile telephone number (MISDN). He has started to receive marketing text messages from his local public house but insists he has never given out the telephone number. The reason he’s so positive is that the Vodafone PAYG number in question is only used for communication with his mistress. So how did the number fall into the brewer’s hands, then? The only explanation he can think of is that he leant the handset to his girlfriend to put records onto the pub jukebox. GoMobile News has been in constant communication with the brewery but they’ve yet to confirm or deny the allegation. Continue reading

Rum winner in MMA Smarties awards
Rating: Coca-Cola the overall winner
We’re not quite sure whether the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) is aware of this but it appears to have picked the name of a popular brand of children’s’ sweeties [candy] in the UK for its new set of awards. Anyway, the ‘Smarties’ were announced last night [November 17th 2011] at the Hotel SLS at Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, USA. The event was sponsored this year [2011] by Motricity along with Millennial Media. The MMA Global Award Winners were chosen from hundreds of entrants by a judging panel of international marketers and agency leaders. Somehow the global winner and North American regional winner appear to be the same thing. A bit like the hosting nation winning the Olympics. Anyway, the overall winner was Old Navy and Crispin Porter + Bogusky for ‘Old Navy Records’. Congratulations. Continue reading
Mobile Marketings Global Reach and Impact by Paul Berney MMA
According to mobile thought leader Tomi Ahonen, we look at our mobile phones 150 times per day on average – more than any other medium. The mobile device has changed the way in which we as consumers interact with the world around us – giving us control over the how, who and when of interaction and creating an expectation of information and services on demand, wherever and whenever we are. As such, mobile is now the most direct and personal channel available to any brand or marketer.
MMA tackles critical skill shortage in mobile marketing
There’s a big problem in mobile marketing, but it’s not one you hear very often – you really need to get in and talk to the people doing the hiring. And that problem is what you might call a “skill shortage”. Mobile marketing is a relatively extremely young discipline, it is growing with incredible speed. That means that there are a lot of people hiring out there, but there is a definite lack of people with the relevant experience to fill those positions. But now the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) has decided to tackle that problem. Continue reading

The MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) (www.mmaglobal.com) and Google will be presenting key findings from a new global research study designed to provide insights into how people are using their mobile devices and the readiness of businesses to engage consumers via mobile. Two separate surveys informed this study: a consumer-facing survey, which included interviews with thousands of smartphone users in 30 different countries, and a business-facing survey conducted in 5 countries (U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Japan) which incorporated over 1000 interviews with marketing decision makers. Mobile coupons: the MMA publishes best practices and guidelines
Using your mobile phone to receive, store and redeem coupons is fast becoming standard practice. The power of mobile couponing is pretty easy to impress on a lot of businesses – it’s a fast way to increase customer loyalty, by providing them with money value through their phone which, unlike paper coupons, they are extremely unlikely to forget. But since there are so many ways to send coupons over mobile, the market has immediately become very fragmented and muddled. And so the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) has today published “Guidelines and Best Practices in Mobile Price Promotions” for North America. Continue reading

Last December, GoMo reported on Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) CEO Mike Wehrs‘ decision to step down from the position. At the time, they didn’t have someone to replace him. An “interim CEO” was put in place”, and a committee was formed to find a new one. It has taken the better part of a year, but they have finally made the announcement at the MMA Forum (EMEA): it’s Greg Stuart, former CEO of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).
